Under the direction of Artistic Director James Canfield, Nevada Ballet Theatre is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, and the largest professional ballet company and dance Academy in the state.  Committed to the highest artistic standards, dancers for the company hail from around the world and include artists with international performing experience. This classically-based company is at home in an eclectic repertory, moving easily from the classics to the high-energy contemporary ballets.  The mission of Nevada Ballet Theatre is to educate and inspire regional, statewide and national audiences and vitally impact community life through professional company productions, dance training and education and outreach. The Art Gallery located at 2525 Mountain City Highway, Suite 109, Elko, Nevada.  Open Tuesday - Saturday, 11 am to 5 pm.

Founded in 1998 to preserve the legacy of the Nevada Test Site, the Atomic Testing Museum’s mission is to document and interpret the unique history associated with nuclear weapons research conducted at the Nevada Test Site within the context of state, national and global importance.  The Atomic Testing Museum opened in 2005 and is dedicated to Nevada and American history, the innovative technological achievements that were discovered in mining, film, and engineering.

Visitors learn about nuclear fission and fusion reactions in an easy-to-understand, Walt Disney cartoon from the 1950’s.  Wide screen video display images of Nazi scientists developing a nuclear weapon and the warning of Albert Einstein to Franklin Roosevelt in 1939 about German nuclear intentions.  Letters from President Truman establishing the Nevada Test Site are displayed along with satellite photos of the Test Site and a recreation of the office of the first Test Site Director.  In the Museum’s immersive Ground Zero Theater visitors experience a simulated nuclear detonation at the Test Site, sitting on wooden benches in a blockhouse two miles from the point of detonation.  

The Museum’s collections include a wide variety of photographs of Test Site nuclear detonations and related scientific equipment.  The following organizations and museums have traded, transferred or loaned period-appropriate military aircraft and artifacts: the Department of Energy, the National Nuclear Science and History Museum in Albuquerque, U.S. Air Force Museum in Dayton, and the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum. 

The Museum is dedicated to the story of American history and technological achievement and is a fertile ground for learning.  Museum topics covering science and technology encourage creative thinking and problem solving in mathematics and science.  The Atomic Testing Museum works with Nevada's public and private schools and the University of Nevada Las Vegas developing programs where practical applications make learning meaningful and fun.

 The success of the LVYO is shown by over thirty years of history. In 2008, the Youth Phil embarked upon their inaugural overseas tour to Salzburg, Vienna, & Prague. Overseas tours are planned every tri-ennium with the most recent occurring this June, 2011 to China. In 2009 the LVYO was chosen for the state's Governor's Arts Award for Leadership in Arts Education.

The LVYO program is made possible through a partnership between the Clark County School District, the Friends of the Las Vegas Youth Orchestras (FLVYO-the Non-Profit)  

The Foundation also established The Studio Academy of Dance and Music.  The facility serves as a home for our jazz, tap, and ballet classes for children of all ages.  Complete with a dance floor and stage, with state-of-the art sound and lighting, we are able to accommodate many performances in this venue.  

Our instructors are led by Lesa Dusich of the Reno Dance Company, a world class performer, teacher, and choreographer.

The Reno Film Festival plays an important niche in Northern Nevada as it is the only complete festival experience within a single long weekend: educational seminars, filmmakers available to discuss their works, screenings of independent and classic films, hosting of the festival's own Indie Short Film competition, etc.  The 11th annual Reno Film Festival will be June 15-19, 2011.  Additional events throughout the festival's year (July-June) include the only Nevada screenings of the Manhattan Short Film Festival (Oct. 1 & 2, 2010) and screenings of the Oscar-winning short films (March 18 & 19, 2011), immediately following the Academy Awards broadcast.  Finalists from the Lumiere All Student Film Fest will screen May 18-20, 2011.

The Nevada Shakespeare Company is a professional theatre company that offers both performances and educational programs primarily in the Northern Nevada region.  

I.  ORGANIZATIONAL INFORMATION

A. History: 

Nevada Shakespeare Company (NSC) was founded in 1999 by Jeanmarie Simpson, Roderick Dexter, Bob Barsanti and Cameron Crain. NSC would be led by Simpson as Artistic Director and Crain as Managing Director. Our first productions were Arthur Miller’s Elegy for a Lady, at the Nevada Museum of Art and the Nevada State Museum, Sandra Deer’s Sailing Byzantium at Bartley Ranch, the Fourth Ward School Museum and the Eureka Opera House and Hamlet, sponsored by the City of Reno.

During Season 2000 and 2001 we seated thousands more patrons at Piper’s Opera House in Virginia City than had seen the inside of the beautiful old theatre in the entire previous century! Our diverse programming included musicals as well as Shakespeare: Annie Get Your Gun, Hamlet,Midsummer Night’s Dream, Macbeth, The Music Man, Twelfth Night, Richard III and Romeo and Juliet. We also presented Hal Holbrook and Leonard Nimoy in conjunction with our Shakespeare In School program.

In 2003, NSC collaborated with University of Nevada Las Vegas on The Road to Mecca, and we produced Emma Sepulveda’s Amigas and King Lear at the Nevada Museum of Art. We kicked off a national tour of Simpson’s original hit play, A Single Woman in 2004. A Single Woman chronicles the life and work of Jeannette Rankin, the first woman elected to Congress, and it played over 200 performances in Nevada, Montana, South Dakota, Oregon, California, Arizona and New York, including an Off-Broadway run in May 2005 at the Culture Project.

In 2006 Crain lead a fundraising effort to produce A Single Woman as an independent, educational film. Directed by Kamala Lopez of Heroica Films, A Single Woman stars Simpson, co-stars Judd Nelson and features the vocal talents of Peter Coyote, Patricia Arquette, Mimi Kennedy, Margot Kidder and Martin Sheen with music by Joni Mitchell. Pending the entrance into selected film festivals, the film is expected to be released by November 2008. 

In 2007 Founding Artistick Director Jeanmarie Simpson retired. Crain's role expanded to Managing and Director and NSC engaged Mr. Joe Atack from Great Britian as our Company Manager and Michelle Calhoun-Fitts as a guest artist. That spring we expanded our Shakespeare In School program by collaborating with Lakes Tahoe Shakespeare Festival. 

In 2008, the E. L. Wiegand Foundation commissioned NSC to create a fresh, new, relevant interpretation of Shakespeare for rural audiences in Nevada, Oregon and Idaho.

During 2009 we served 13,526 patrons with A Single Woman, Shakespeare In School andShakespeare on the Road. Our touring version of Macbeth opens in mid-October and will journey to Reno, Winnemucca, Dayton, Virginia City and Yerington. To this day, our educational and community outreach programs have served over 120,000 students in every county in Nevada.

B. Mission and Goals: 

With Shakespeare as our touchstone, Nevada Shakespeare Company, based in northern Nevada, presents education-driven, humanities-based, language-rich theatre and film works. Our foremost goal is to offer our Shakespeare In School program to every student in northern Nevada. We seek to provide our patrons with the best, most professional theatre experience possible: a great state deserves great art!

C. Purpose: 

Nevada Shakespeare Company’s purpose is to serve our patrons, the families of northern Nevada, with a first-rate artistic and educational experience that entertains, engages and educates. 

D. Geographic Area Served:

We are based in northern Nevada and primarily serve Reno and Sparks; however, our programs extend not only to Washoe, but the Nevada counties of Storey, Carson, Lyon, Douglas, Humboldt, Pershing and Elko.

The Churchill Arts Council (CAC) is dedicated to enriching the cultural and social life of our community and region by providing educational and experiential opportunities in the arts on a variety of levels including a performing arts series; visual art exhibitions; film programs; literary readings, lectures, talks and conversations with contemporary artists; and artists’ residencies in the schools.  Through innovative programming, CAC serves as a cultural resource for the region by providing vision, leadership, information, support, education and enjoyment of a diversity of art experiences.

In the 19^th season in downtown Reno, Brüka has been named “Best Theatre Company” by The News and Review fourteen years running.  Brüka Theatre is a leader in the region, recognized for its artists, productions and theatre for children series since it’s founding in 1992. Central to its commitment is the reinvestigation of contemporary and classic plays and developing new plays within Brüka’s Artistic Collective, which include winners of the Nevada Arts Council and Sierra Arts Foundation artist grants and local best actor honors.  Brüka is a non- equity and not-for-profit theater company that has produced over 100 shows and enjoys two performance spaces, the main stage, with its unique couch seating holds 64 and the sub-Brüka space seats 44 in its downtown Reno location.  2011/2012 Season tickets are now on sale.  Go to the website at www.bruka.org.

 ABOUT THE LAKE TAHOE SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL

The Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established for the cultural benefit and enjoyment of all residents and visitors to Lake Tahoe and Reno. Annually drawing more than 30,000 attendees from across the country to the specially built Warren Edward Trepp Stage along the north shore of Lake Tahoe, the Festival is an advocate for producing the finest cultural events in the region. The Festival’s community outreach includes an annual educational program, InterACT, designed to educate future generations on the importance of the arts, theater and music and the D.G. Menchetti Young Shakespeare Program, a free series of performances produced specifically for the younger audience presented free of charge during the summer throughout Lake Tahoe and Northern Nevada.

The success of the company has led to the development of a comprehensive musical theatre program at Western Nevada College, culminating in an associate of arts degree in musical theatre.  Students in the program enroll in coursework to develop skills in acting, singing, dancing and technical theatre.  These apprentice actors participate in the productions along with seasoned performers.

The company presents three productions a year, offering economical ticket prices as well as discounted season passes.

Our 28th Amazing Year

Crisp mountain air, crystal blue waters, the laughter of friends and family and a concert under the stars – that’s the Lake Tahoe Music Festival. It’s a summer music destination and you truly have to be here to feel it. Combining Broadway and classical, classic rock, jazz, big band swing and even a little country, the festival’s six-concert summer series attracts more than 12,000 attendees annually to scenic venues throughout North Lake Tahoe and Truckee, California with tickets starting from $25. The summer season begins in July with an annual Opening Gala at a private residence on Lake Tahoe’s West Shore and continues into August wrapping up with a Benefactors Party for donors and volunteers.

The festival’s summer concert series supports an Educational Outreach Program (EOP) which introduces new audiences to classical music through education, exposure and programming for youth in the Truckee and North Lake Tahoe communities and nationally through the new Orchestra Academy. Through its mentorship programs and other music education opportunities, the EOP aids young musical artists and emerging ensembles, offering training, guidance and concert presentation.

The festival's mission statement is "to recognize the cultural benefit of film to personal and community well-being and to promote educational and entertaining activities in the Reno area that honor film and filmmakers."  While the main audience is local-Reno/Sparks, other northern Nevada and northeast California citizens-a number of visitors attend each year.  Attendees range from students of film of all ages to film buffs interested in seeing up and coming filmmakers' short films to those who enjoy classics once again on the big screen.  Most films include guest speakers who provide backgrounder information on the screenings.

A division of the Department of Cultural Affairs, the Nevada Arts Council has a staff of 11 and a nine-member board whose members are appointed by the Governor.

NAC is divided into five program areas: Artist Services, Arts in Education, Community Arts Development, Folklife and Grants. Through these program areas, NAC provides grant funding; offers professional assistance to artists, cultural organizations and schools; and coordinates statewide arts programming and activities for Nevada's cultural workforce. All NAC grants, programs and services are guided by a statewide planning process and a strategic plan.

Nevada School of the Arts was chartered as an independent non-profit community arts school on July 7, 1977. The school, however, had earlier origins - first, as the Saturday Conservatory which began as an outreach program of the Music Department at University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and also a highly successful summer arts camps at Mr. Charleston. The school continued to operate in the University facilities until 1991 when its administrative offices and main teaching center moved to the Paradise Elementary School campus.  During the summer of 1994, the administrative offices and teaching staff moved to the campus of Las Vegas Academy of International Studies, Performing and Visual Arts in downtown Las Vegas. In the summer of 2004, due to ever growing demand for much needed space at the academy campus, the School was forced to relocate to the Festivals Professional Business Park at 4170 South Decatur Avenue.

A 501(c)(3) organization, Nevada School of the Arts has been serving the Las Vegas Valley for the last thirtythree years and is a member of National Guild For Community Arts Education.

With the endorsement and support of Mayor Oscar Goodman and Las Vegas City Council, Nevada School of the Arts is one of the resident organizations at the Historic Fifth Street School. 

The Mission of Nevada School of the Arts is dedicated to providing, to the entire community, diverse opportunities for quality education and creative expression in the performing and visual arts:

Objectives:

Nevada School of the Arts students frequently are cited for the excellence of their work, winning local, regional and national recognition. We work closely with the Joe Williams Scholarship Foundation, the Las Vegas Academy of the Performing Arts High School's Jazz Program, the UNLV Jazz Studies Program, and the College of Southern Nevada's Jazz Program.

We provide 10 scholarships annually to the College of Southern Nevada's Summer Jazz Camp. One of these scholarships is named in honor of Las Vegas Jazz Master, Trombonist, and Big Band Conductor, Jimmy Wilkins.

The RUBY MOUNTAIN FILM FESTIVAL (RMFF) presents a full range of independent and student films from across the globe against the backdrop of the ruggedly beautiful Ruby Mountains in Northeastern Nevada. This four-day event promises to uncover cinematic treasures in both short and feature categories.

With an emphasis on great storytelling, RMFF's program aims to please local audiences and visiting filmmakers and will include narrative, documentary, animation, digital media, and even a poetry to video category. The Festival will focus on a small line-up of films, proving to be an excellent showcase for both veteran and emerging filmmakers seeking to find an audience for their work.

With Jury and Audience Awards across multiple categories, as well as the Ruby Award for career achievement in the Western genre, there are numerous opportunities for filmmaker recognition at RMFF. Inclusive of films of all budgets, from indies to Hollywood fare, the Festival also plans to nurture and present the work of filmmakers from kindergarten through college, offering a variety of student sections and prizes.

The Capital City Arts Initiative is an artist-centered organization committed to the encouragement and support of artists and the arts and culture of Carson City and the surrounding region. The Initiative is committed to community building for the area's diverse adult and youth populations through art projects and exhibitions, live events, arts education programs, artist residencies, and its online projects.

As a free, public charter high school, Rainshadow offers an alternative path to higher academic achievement for all who would choose it. We challenge our students to rise above their previous expectations, to join us in this adventure and become all they can be. The foundation of our curriculum is a small group of dedicated, professional teachers with their own unique backgrounds and educational experiences. Many of our students have been adrift in a world they didn’t feel they belonged to. At Rainshadow, students find a sense of belonging. We create an environment that nurtures and supports our students to be creative and dynamic in expressing who they are in whatever artistic format they may choose. It is a process of transformation accompanied by a high school education. Students have the opportunity to build friendships, pursue extra-curricular activities, contribute to the community, and discover that knowledge really is power. Sponsored by the Washoe County School District, we are also accredited by the Northwest Accreditation Commission. Our mission: “Creating empowered community members through real world education.”

Yerington Theatre For the Arts at Historic Jeanne Dini Center is a non-profit community Arts organization.  YTA presents an eclectic season of music, theater,  dance and visual arts. 

The Contemporary Arts Center (CAC) is a non-profit 501(c)3 art organization dedicated to presenting new, high quality, visual, and performing art, while striving to build, educate, and sustain audiences for contemporary art. The CAC strives to provide a place where artists can learn about best practices, test new ideas in the public arena, and connect with fellow artists within and beyond our own community.

In addition, the Philharmonic provided background music for the CineVegas International Film Festival screening of the silent classic "Nosferatu." International superstars Sarah Brightman, Placido Domingo and Andrea Bocelli (on his tour in Las Vegas, Phoenix, and Denver) have all performed with the talented orchestra. Other world-renown performers have included Bernadette Peters, Leon Bates, Oliva Gorra, Zheng Zhou and Luana DeVol. These stunning accomplishments are impressive, especially given the orchestra's relatively nascent presence.

Co-founded by Music Director Harold Weller and longtime Las Vegas arts supporters Susan and Andrew Tompkins, the Philharmonic established artistic credibility with a stunning performance of the complex and demanding Gustav Mahler Second "Resurrection" Symphony in May 1999. This endeavor was the result of the determined efforts of a group of civic leaders who were devoted to classical music and believed that Southern Nevada needed and would support a resident symphony orchestra offering musical performances of consistently high quality. On July 1, 2007, the Philharmonic welcomed new Music Director and Conductor David Itkin.

Now in its thirteenth season, the Philharmonic's glorious sounds have soared high above the din of slot machines in Las Vegas, entertaining growing audiences with its classical Masterworks Series and upbeat Pops Series featuring some of the best touring artists in the world and offering patrons a variety of special events throughout the season.

The Virgin Valley Artists Association promotes the power of the arts for all the residents of northeast Clark County.  The members operate the Mesquite Fine Arts Gallery, pottery studio, art classes and artists studio, all open to the public.  All facilities are staffed by the volunteer efforts of VVAA. a 501c3 nonprofit.
