The Nevada Arts Council’s (NAC) mission is “to enrich the cultural life of the state through leadership that preserves, supports, strengthens and makes accessible excellence in the arts for all Nevadans.” The agency’s programs serve as a catalyst to stimulate artistic, cultural and economic activity across the state, animate its breadth of communities, ensure lifelong learning in the arts for all Nevadans, and to encourage public and private support for the arts.
NAC manages two visual arts exhibition programs in the state capital Carson City:
OXS Gallery, Nevada Arts Council office, 716 N. Carson Street Carson City, NV. The Office eXhibition Series (OXS) is dedicated to showcasing work by contemporary Nevada artists recognized through the Artist Fellowship Program or Governor’s Arts Award Visual Arts Commission. The gallery rotates between five to six solo and group displays per year and exhibitions are often complimented with artist or curator discussions.
LXS Gallery, Nevada State Legislature, 401 S. Carson Street, on the first floor across from the Caucus Deli, Carson City, NV. Since 1985, the Legislative eXhibition Series (LXS) has featured the work of Nevada’s contemporary and traditional artists in the Nevada State Legislature during the biennial legislative session. LXS artists selected to exhibit their artwork are recommended by a committee of respected artists and arts professionals working throughout the State.
