The Reno Arts and Culture Division, an agency within the City of Reno’s Parks, Recreation & Community Services Department, serves as the official advisor to the City of Reno on matters related to the cultural life of the community. The goals of the division (RACD) are to create an environment that encourages excellence by area artists and cultural organizations; strengthen the awareness and involvement of all citizens in the community's cultural life, both in heritage and in contemporary expressions; and establish the priorities necessary to achieve these goals in concert with representatives from the public and private sectors.
In addition to several grant programs and a public art program, RACD oversees a historic building that is home to local nonprofit arts organization, an auditorium used for rehearsals and performances, and two fine art galleries. The Metro Gallery is in the first floor lobby of Reno City Hall and features solo exhibitions by regional and national contemporary artists working in various media. McKinley Arts and Culture Center houses two galleries, Gallery East and Gallery West, featuring work by emerging local and regional artists. Exhibitions are selected through a proposal process once a year in the Spring.
