The UNLV School of Music presents the Las Vegas Baroque Festival.
A message from the directors:
We are proud to announce the 2017 Las Vegas Baroque Festival, hosted at the School of Music of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas directed by Jennifer Grim and Jonathan Rhodes Lee. During this festival, some of the country’s great period instrument players will appear on our stages, alongside UNLV students and faculty.
Our featured ensemble is the Archetti Baroque String Orchestra. This group is dedicated to the concerto repertoire of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, played on the very instruments that were used during those centuries: gut-strung violins, violas, cellos, and gambas, accompanied by harpsichords and organs. In many cases, the instrumentalists of this group play on antique instruments, while others play on replicas carefully crafted to the specifications of the originals.
We also welcome Craig Cramer, Professor of organ, Notre Dame University, for a recital of eighteenth-century music on the Beckerath organ in Doc Rando Hall on the UNLV campus. Dr. Cramer is the winner of prestigious competitions in the organ community, such as the Alexander McCurdy Competition and the National Organ Competition, and has been praised by Fanfare Magazine for his “confident polished, and nicely paced” playing. His recital is offered in conjunction with the Las Vegas chapter of the American Guild of Organists.
