TOCCATA Tahoe Symphonhy Kicks Off 13th Season with BRRRoque Masters • James Rawie, Conducting

TOCCATA – Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus kicks off its 13th annual WinterFest with the “BRRRoque Masters” concert series January 7,10,13 & 14. The concert series is dedicated to the memory of Mark Lord, TOCCATA’s principal trumpet player 2007-2014.

The program opens with Mouret’s famous Suite de Sinfonie fanfare, which is better known as the “theme from Masterpiece Theater”, followed by Handel’s Organ Concerto in F Major performed by David Brock, and Vivaldi’s Spring Concerto from the Four Seasons, performed by Rick Stockton. J. S. Bach’s sublime Cantata #180 Schmucke Dich, o Liebe Seele closes the first half.

The concert continues with Archangelo Corelli’s wonderful “Christmas” Concerto Grosso Opus 6 #8 and Bach’s Concerto in C minor featuring violinist Heidi Modr and oboist Nita Tune. The concert finishes with Handel’s tour de force for soprano and trumpet, Let the Bright Seraphim, from the opera Samson. Anne Davidson, Becky Earl and Joy Strotz are the featured sopranos. David Brock, harpsichordist, and Nick Haines, cello and John Cardosa, bass, perform as the continuo. Maestro James Rawie will conduct all performances.

The performances are Sunday January 7 at 3:30pm at St Theresa Catholic Church in South Lake Tahoe (1041 Lyons Ave.); Wednesday, January 10 at 7pm at Shepherd of the Sierra Lutheran Church in Carson City (3680 hwy 395 South); and Saturday, January 13 at 3pm at First Methodist Church in Reno (209 W first St). The final performance is on Sunday, January 14 at 3pm in St Patrick’s Episcopal Church, Incline Village (341 Village Boulevard).

The January 7th performance in South Lake Tahoe will have a special dedication to Phil Stevenson, a founding member of TOCCATA from South Lake who passed away recently. The concert will have no admission charge, but donations are requested. The January 13th presentation at Reno First Methodist Church will also have no admission charge, but donations are requested.

Tickets are available at the door for all other concerts or online at General admission to BRRRoque Masters concerts is $25 adults, $20 seniors, $5 students aged 19 to 23. Preferred seating is $35 and $15 for youth/students. Youth under 19 years of age are admitted free, in non reserved seating, to most regular season concerts in 2018.
TOCCATA’s 13th Anniversary WinterFest continues February 17-24 with Mozart’s Violin Concerto #4 featuring Elizabeth Pitcairn with the legendary Red Stradivarius violin, and Mozart’s masterpiece, Mass in C minor.
