Sin City Opera & Cockroach Theatre Company in their first joint production bring two operatic premiers to Nevada audiences, Kurt Weill’s opera & ballet, The Seven Deadly Sins paired with Schoenberg’s Erwartung (Expectation), September 2nd – 10th at Art Square Theatre. Darren Weller will direct the Seven Deadly Sins, and Kate St-Pierre will direct Erwartung. With a score that is quintessential Weill and a libretto by Brecht both wickedly funny and a damning indictment on the morality of capitalism, The Seven Deadly Sins is a stunning showcase for both a singer and a dancer who each portray the conflicted Anna in this timeless ballet chanté. Erwartung (Expectation) is based on the conception of a woman, lost in the forest, as she searches for her lover in this monologue for Soprano by modernist master Arthur Schoenberg. A second of time is stretched out over 30 minutes as we are swept into the emotional and musical landscape that is her mind.
