DJD Foundation for Freedom of Expression is proud to present the work of Susie Deese on display from May 5 through May 24, 2017. The exhibit is free to view and a portion of the sales benefits DJD Foundation for Freedom of Expression.
Susie’s assemblage work stems from the love of old, damaged, forgotten and discarded items. The process is her quest to bring a revival story to these castoffs. It’s a method of tinkering until the moment when the story has unfolded.
Susie is self-taught, but grew up watching her father utilize welding in his various businesses and artwork. Through his example, she began to see useful where others saw useless, and to overlook the surface to imagine other purposes for items. It was from him that she learned that on most occasions, beauty and soundness are born from rubbish or the unexpected.
She is a veteran of the United States Air Force and has recently retired after serving twenty-six years.
