Mile High Jazz Band Association Calendar/Events
The Mile High Jazz Band, an 18-member "big band" began performing in 1997. The group features music in the Basie-Ellington-Herman tradition, as well as more contemporary styles. They perform for community events, fundraisers, dances, receptions, private parties, and in concert, and collaborate with poets in quarterly "Jazz & Poetry" performances. Mile High Jazz Band was honored to perform for the 2007 Governor's Arts Awards ceremony. The band plays at Comma Coffee on the second Tuesday of each month.
The Mile High Jazz Band Association formed in 2001 as a nonprofit corporation to support the Mile High Jazz Band and its subgroup, the Millennium Bugs (jazz combo), promote live jazz performance in northern Nevada, educate the public about jazz, and enrich the cultural life of the community. The Association sponsors an annual Jazz Festival in Carson City in August. Member benefits include mailings, discounts on admissions, and invitations to special events, plus the satisfaction of helping big-band jazz to thrive! For Association membership information, or to book the Mile High Jazz Band or Millennium Bugs combo, call 775-883-4154 or see milehighjazz.com.
