RENO, Nevada (May 11, 2010) -- Rainshadow Community Charter High School (RCCHS) students (www.rainshadowcchs.org  ) will hold their annual art show, benefit and sale on Thursday, May 27, 2010 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.  Proceeds from the show and sale will directly benefit the educational programs for the charter high school on Vesta Street in Reno.

For sale there be will art by Rainshadow students, Modern Masters and Contemporary art for sale.  Proceeds will help in providing specific items needed to run the school.  Rainshadow's mission is to empower and teach the students in learning how knowledge and skills they acquire can be applied to meaningful, real-world projects to accomplish their own goals.  School supplies are needed for this successful and innovative school where most reluctant students find reasons to attend school and become engaged in learning.

The show will feature work for sale by the students with ages ranging from 14 to 20. Some of the mediums of art for sale are acrylics, oils, pen and ink, and more. Over 50 different original student works of art will be available for sale.

"I think the art program at Rainshadow is really great," said student Cody Swanson, age 15.  "It really allows the students to express themselves in school and life."

The show will also have original works for sale by Modern Masters such as Pablo Picasso, Joan Miro, Salvador Dali, Alexander Calder, Karel Appel, Wifredo Lam and other artists.  On display from a local private art collection will be originals by Pablo Picasso, Paul Jenkins, and Marc Chagall.

Also for sale will be the contemporary art by Mark H. Campbell. He is a Rollins College recipient of the Cornell Fine Arts Scholarship whose work hangs in five permanent museum collections in the United States. Campbell's art is in the private collections of Robert and Lillian Bohlen, Michael Eidson, Carlos Santana, Peter Bartlow, Ritz Carlton Tahoe, Aretha Franklin, Michael Narada Walden and others. Local art dealer Robbin Lee and RSR Ltd. along with veteran art dealer, Mark Steingard is coordinating the Modern Masters and Campbell's work that is for sale. www.investmentandart.com .

Kim Frazier, RCCHS Administrative Assistant, said, "Our students are really creative. The art show gives them an outlet to express their creativity and learn more about the field of art."

RCCHS students are typically indigent, sometimes homeless, or have limited financial support.  As Rainshadow is a public, charter school, students are not required to pay tuition.   The school has undergone a major transformation over the past year adding a culinary arts program to its other programs:  an organic agriculture program, basketball team, drama club, art and film programs, and science and technology programs.  With the addition of the culinary arts program, the school has added a coffee shop open to the public. It features freshly baked goods prepared by the students.  Hours of operation are 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with all sales benefiting the school.  Art show sale proceeds will go towards supporting all of these innovative programs, as well as providing local transit bus passes for students who have difficulty with transportation, and basic day to day supplies.   All of the programs at Rainshadow have a focus on getting students competitive in our modern and ever changing world. Proceeds from the art show and sale will also go towards building lease, maintenance, utilities salaries, and benefits.

Founded in 2003, RCCHS is an alternative learning environment that is community based and project oriented. Rainshadow students earn 22.5 credits in specific areas in order to earn a regular high school diploma; students will need to successfully complete at least 45 classes. RCCHS is a place where most reluctant students find reasons to become engaged in learning. The school and its teaching staff is dedicated to successfully graduating high school students with the tools, the motivation and the attitudes essential for productive life-long learning. The localized interdisciplinary curriculum works to involve students in authentic learning situations and classroom events that allow students to become involved in the learning process.  Schedules are designed to allow students the maximum amount of freedom of choice while meeting the requirements of Nevada State standards and providing a regular high school diploma.   Since its founding, it has graduated 53 Students. The 2010 graduating class has 26 students. The Holland Project utilizes Rainshadow's facility to provide all ages music and art events.
