Brushing the Firmament, an exhibit by Las Vegas artist Brent Sommerhauser, is featured at the Nevada Arts Council's OXS Gallery, 

Sommerhauser explains that firmament refers to an ancient belief that the sky was actually a solid dome - one that separated the terrestrial world from a celestial one.  Clouds rode along its arch and wind curled against its surface. His drawings happen as pencils lift and leave traces of their encounters with their own firmament.
