In Contempt features works by Maya Claiborne and Brooke Warn, tattoo artists from Reno, NV. Their works walk a line between discomfort and pleasure. Both artist deal with the inherent contradictions and symbiosis of light and shadow and study the effect of color on the psyche.
The Artists Co-op Gallery is pleased to host this statewide invitational "miniature" show: "Nevada" Beauty in All Seasons." This is a juried and judged show, with awards to be presented at the reception on October 8th. Reception is from 12-4PM.
Preserved: Limb, timber and tree-spirit features paintings of serene, color drenched environments exploring themes of nature. Artist Jennifer Kapnek uses layers of acrylic paint on recycled wood while incorporating natural elements to reflect concepts of history, endurance, and preservation.
Turning Over a New Leaf: Fabric Constructions by Lisa Flowers Ross features bright and bold abstract artworks using hand died fabric. Drawing upon themes of nature and daily observation, fabric and thread is transformed into simple shapes with an emphasis on line, color and composition.
Angles and Eaves: Deconstructing Architecture features hard-edge acrylic paintings reflecting the architectural styles of California before the turn of the 20th Century.
Former University professor Walter McNamara and frequent collaborator Lynda Yuroff have created a new, two-person exhibition as part of University Galleries' exhibition series that investigates the permanent collection.
The Latimer Art Club's meeting on 10-21-17 is open to the public. Guest speaker is Kaleigh Surber who will share with us her creations of Radiant Mandalas.
