INSURE FEDERAL FUNDING

ACTION ALERT: TWO MINUTES TO INSURE

FEDERAL FUNDING FOR

 NEVADA'S ARTS INDUSTRY

"Never doubt that a group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." -Margaret Mead

You may be a current or former recipient of funding from the Nevada Arts Council (NAC).

You may be a Nevadan who values the arts in your community or believes in the importance of arts education for our children. Regardless, all voices are needed now in Washington, D.C. to support a proposed increase in funding for the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA). This comes at a time when additional dollars have never been more important-particularly in Nevada.

The NEA is currently funded at $167 million for FY10. In July, the House Interior Appropriations Subcommittee proposed an increase of $2.5 million for the next fiscal year, setting initial funding for FY11 at $170 million.

Nevada's incoming administration and 2011 State Legislature will be faced with a shortfall estimated at $3 billion-nearly one-half the state budget.  The Nevada Arts Council (NAC) suffered a 43% reduction in state funds in 2009, and is certain to face further cuts.  These precious dollars from the NEA are essential-as they are presently the primary source for NAC grant programs, which in turn provide critical support for artists, arts organizations and schools throughout the state.

Please take a few minutes to contact your representatives in the House and Senate and urge their support of $170 million for the NEA in FY11.  Just visit the Americans for the Arts E-Advocacy Center to send a letter to your members of Congress . The format of your letter is easy, flexible, quick and easily personalized.  Write today and let your elected officials know that the arts are important to you and all Nevadans!  Thank you.
