Susan Handau is a mixed media artist drawn to the textures and abstract qualities of the world around us. After starting out painting in watercolors, she now prefers the versatility and high texture effects she can achieve with wax and multi-layering of oil, acrylic, graphite and fiber materials.
Susan completed a BA in Art History at the University of Nevada, Reno in 1997. In 2000, she spent a year touring through Europe expanding her art history knowledge.
She has had solo shows in the John Ben Snow Memorial Trust Art Gallery in Reno, Nevada, the Getchell Library at the University of Nevada, Reno as well as private showings in Frankfurt, Germany and Reno.
She received an Endowment Grant from Sierra Arts Foundation in 2006. She took 1st place in painting at the North Kitsap Arts and Crafts Show in Port Gamble, Washington. In 1998, she was given an Honorable Mention at “Affair in the Gardens” Beverly Hills Art Show. She lives and works in Reno.
