Marla Gartrell was born in Denver, Colorado. The daughter of an oil painter, she found art at a early age and never looked back. She explored fiber, ceramics, painting and ultimately focused on fused glass and oil painting. Working from her home studio, she gains inspiration from the beautiful northern Nevada landscape, gorgeous skies and Lake Tahoe.
"For me, as an artist, I spend every day looking at what surrounds me as potential subject matter. That is my creative process and where I get my inspiration."
Kiln-formed glass is a specialty glass that is fused in a kiln, with a secondary slump or drape fire schedule. Gartrell produces pieces as large as 20" x 20" both functional and non-functional. When painting Gartrell enjoys painting birds, chickens and landscaping.
