Mark Maynard

Maynard, Mark

Mark Maynard grew up on the north shore of Lake Tahoe in Incline Village, NV, a very small town that blessed him with enough quirky characters from an early age to populate a lifetime of stories. He left the slopes of Tahoe for the shores of the Pacific, attending college at the University of San Diego. After graduation, he moved to the San Francisco Bay Area where he worked at several fledgeling dot-coms and one globally-dominating video game company. He moved back to Northern Nevada several years ago where he worked in newspapers as a columnist, an editor, and an online manager, until he began teaching Composition, Fiction and Creative Writing at Truckee Meadows Community College and Sierra Nevada College.

Mark earned his MFA in Creative Writing (Fiction) from Antioch University Los Angeles. His short fiction has been selected as runner up in the Our Stories Gordon Fiction Contest and as honorable mention in the Torrey House Press Winter 2011 Fiction Contest. His work has also appeared in Lunch Ticket, Ploughshares Magazine's "Literary Boroughs," Shelf Life Magazine, The Duck and Herring Pocket Field Guide, the Tall Grass Wild Things Anthology and the Novel and Short Story Writer's Market 2010. Mark is the Fiction Editor for The Meadow literary journal for which he has interviewed authors including Alyson Hagy, Jillian Lauren, Christopher Coake, and Kim Barnes. He lives in Reno, NV, and can sometimes be found performing stand-up comedy at the Third Street Bar in downtown Reno.

Mark also teaches Creative Writing workshops. He can be reached at and his website can be found at
