Group: Verismo Trio

Verismo Trio, Group:

Verismo Trio was founded in 2010 by nationally recognized active performers and recording artists Nicole Riner (flute), Scott Turpen (saxophones), and Theresa Bogard (piano). Combining original works and arrangements for this instrumentation along with duo and solo works of all combinations creates a widely varied, colorful concert experience that highlights works written since the 20th Century. In their short time together, Verismo has toured the Rocky Mountain region from the remote mountain towns of Wyoming to inner city Denver, introducing new sound concepts and new composers to audiences young and old.

All members of Verismo Trio serve on the music faculty at the University of Wyoming and have performed as guest instructors in public schools in Wyoming and Colorado as well as abroad in Brazil, Germany, China, Singapore and Thailand.

Verismo Trio is dedicated to collaborating with emergent composers and championing new music in artistically underserved regions. They are committed to training young chamber musicians and artists in other disciplines through school residencies and master classes in conjunction with their performances. In this way, they hope to bring a wealth of contemporary composers to a younger audience and encourage collaborations in future generations.

Professional Development Workshops: Teacher/Staff Training
"Chamber Music Boot Camp": Music intensive residency allows teachers to get back to basics and review their own ideas about how to teach by actively going through their own rigorous day of musical training. Their experiences with Verismo Trio will help them explore ways to guide their students to practice listening, blending with their peers by exploring new colors and levels of control on their instruments while assuming more responsibility for their participation in the musical whole.
Program/Residency Activity Descriptions: Schools/Communities
"Composer Collaboration": A composition residency will include classes on how to write effectively for woodwinds and piano, how to present new scores to performers, and tips on fostering relationships with willing performers. "Creative Listening and Collaboration": In this residency option, all audience members are collaborators on collective works of art in which Verismo Trio provides the soundtrack (and a little bit of guidance!) against which students create their masterpieces.
