Ms. China’s teaching style could best be described as creative passion through West African dance, creative writing and performance theatre.
Ms. China is a Walt Disney Musical Theater Teaching Artist and a Southern Nevada Wolf Trap Teaching Artist in partnership with the Smith Center for the Performing Arts in Las Vegas. As an African dance instructor and a member of Olabisi African Dance & Drum Ensemble, she is committed to maintaining African culture and tradition through drumming and dancing. Ms. China has established youth cultural and empowerment programs at Pearson Community Center, Walnut Recreation Center, Cambridge Recreation Center, and the West Las Vegas Cultural Arts Center. She is a guest instructor at University of Las Vegas Nevada, College of Southern Nevada, and the Clark County School District. In a continued effort for youth excellence, she oversees "After School Fitness" and "Voices" programs in partnership with the Las Vegas Urban League 21st Century Program.
Ms. China has written, directed, and performed in fourteen original productions showcasing social, racial and political issues. Her theatrical performances include: “For Colored Girls,” “Vagina Monologues,” “Amen Corner,” “The Bluest Eye,” “The Color Purple,” and “Dreamgirls.” A member of the Las Vegas community, she is a powerful leader currently enriching the lives of youth and families through culture, character, theatre, spirit, and leadership workshops. Her experience as a writer, director, actress, spoken word artist, African dancer, and facilitator combined with her love for people forms an explosive package for creating change.
